ADE 2017

The week I'm looking forward to the most has started with a beautiful mellow and sunny Wednesday that I will try to describe as short as possible. It's not even midnight yet, and something might be coming. I'm so happy to see people are still finding the Nachtsnuiver WhatsApp group, keep on joining, keep on sharing the ADE love!

Moving back to my own house today after two weeks in a different barrio was not my brightest timing idea, but it happened anyway. Going for a coffee with friends who I hardly ever see all together turned out to be quite the event, before I knew it we were still at Clubkoffie soaking up rays of sunshine neverending it seemed. But Bordello was awaiting, and that was not all. There's all the options and then there's the reality of where you are and using your time and energy wisely.

Cycling to Bordello I crossed the Nieuwmarkt where they were getting ready for the Hawtin show. I never recommended to go here and if you can read Dutch, we didn't miss much. Predictable, I'd say. Still thanks for the review, 3v12.

At Bordello ADE was exactly as I recall from earlier years. All Amsterdam djs are everywhere, smiling, talking, dancing. First person I see before I even set foot in the store is San Proper.

Plus as I later found out chatting to him, in the shot you will also find Samo DJ and Baba Stiltz. One even more friendly than the other. But of course ADE has something going on everywhere, so on I went. To Kompakt.

Wristbands were no issue with half an hour to go. Thursday you can go to Kompakt at 2pm to get a wristband for the show that starts at the beginning of the evening. But there was more adventure in the air and I thought I was meeting a friend. Off to X Bank! This is how I like my open bars to look, watch and learn!

F5'ing my facebook I spot this video by the B-side team, and it matches a photo I took earlier at Bordello. I'm cycling back on the hunt for the Gerd Janson tickets. I have to look at the video again, but in the end I find the KiNK record with the hard copy tickets in there!

Boom. Yes! The surprises continue. Outside it's ADE in full effect: Orpheu and Woody are doing a video interview. Westcoast represent. You will see them all over the city this week, to get an idea check out the Thursday and Friday previews.

Later when I spot Woody sharing some stickers with Samo DJ and Baba Stiltz I tap him on the shoulder and feel very lucky to receive what seems to be the last one. As you can see Bordello is the place to be these days. Job Jobse and somebody unannounced will play Thursday plus David Vunk, The Hacker and Mr. Woody himself are on the line up for Friday!

Meanwhile it's just past 7pm and look at what's happening at the Rush Hour store. Deniro takes the first hour, Nina will do the 8-9pm slot it seems. That doesn't stop anybody from flooding in. Oh boy. Sardines everywhere.

Joined by a friend I decide to go somewhere (back to X Bank) with space and cold beers. Only to find out nothing but wine and water is left on the table. Well well. Instead we enter The Vault. I wonder if Tijana also went in (I spot her on the way outside).

The presentation takes us through a couple of stages, first it feels a bit outerplanetary, then we enter a sort of elevator only to end up with a kind of womblike experience. Thursday you can see this at Stenen Hoofd next to the IJ river which I can only recommend, I really wonder how what this will be like outdoors.

What happens next feels like Amsterdam Dance Event at it's best. We are outside X Bank without any plan and suddenly this lady walks up to us and hands us the orange wristbands for the W hotel on the opposite side of the street. You must know, there is this Lamborghini parked out in front, who knows what we can expect on the 6th floor! The lady didn't forget to mention that her color wristband should serve us free beer. Let's find out!

Before we know it we're in the slowest elevator of the year. We make a stop at almost all floors, but at least there's gold everywhere. Who knows what we find upstairs! This guy does a live performance.

Most people though are outside. Enjoying the view, the lovely autumn weather. When I try the bar I find out that our wristbands had value until 8pm. It's 8:05. Well great. Still, the view is likeable!

But 8 euros for a beer is not going to cut it. My crowd feels far away here. Back to Rush Hour. Ha, Nina started. The windows are clouded. This is a magnificent view. And it's only Wednesday. Thursday beginning of the afternoon she will be back, in great company of the man from London: Gilles Peterson.

As beautiful as the view may be, we won't enter this building. Also obviously inside there is no inch of movement possible. No biggie. Find the video on Rush Hour facebook etc. Alright, alright, I hear ya, one more closeup, Nina Kraviz at Rush Hour ADE 2017 Wednesday.

Back to Bordello. Let's see if they survived the fact that Richie is done at Nieuwmarkt, will there be lots of fallout coming in..? As it turns out this is absolutely not the case. Instead there is room to dance. And music that makes you move!

Powder is playing and I love it.

But before I find out out that all her records got lost by the airline bringing her to Amsterdam, she plays this recommendation from the Bordello crew. I am dreaming. Trying to ID the track the great salesman behind the counter makes me buy the vinyl instead. I don't have a record player.

But I have to admit, this salesman does one hell of a job. He doesn't just sell me a vinyl from the wall. He sells me the one Powder just played. After her set I tell her this, and ask if she wants to sign the record. She is all smiles and oh so tiny. I love her! Thank you.

My night is complete. But I meet a De School regular and we go for a beer at 'Skek instead. Now it's after midnight and Radion is waiting. Gotta run!
